U.S. to help Algeria become regional biopharmacy icon

Algerian and U.S. biopharmaceutical experts and government officials met here Wednesday for a partnership conference meant to make the North African nation an icon in terms of biopharmacy and healthcare in the region by 2020. 

The Algeria 2020 Partnership Conference, organized under the patronage of Algerian Ministry of Health, the U.S.sanitary napkin-Algeria Business Council and the Algerian Embassy in Washington,industrial shipping scales discussed pairing innovation with business opportunities for expanded research and development in Algeria, in addition to ways of launching programs for increased academic and training exchanges, and the potential to incentivize in-country production through business environment improvement. 

"This initiative is meant to lay down long-term partnership between Algeria and the United States in terms of research and development, and the ultimate goal is to enable Algeria, in the horizon of 2020 and 2030, to innovate new molecules for cancer and diabetic treatments,kitchen balance scale" CEO of the U.digital scales wholesaleS.-Algerian Business Council Smail Chikhoune told Xinhua at the margin of the conference. 

"This initiative is also an opportunity to boost the sector of pharmacy and biotechnology in Algeria, given that the country enjoys enough human resources," said Chikhoune, adding that the United States will make a technology transfer in this domain by sending to Algeria experts and researches, so as to make Algeria " a leading biopharmaceutical pole in the region" by 2020. 

The two parties are due to launch a set of short and long-term partnership projects, and the beginning is scheduled for January 2013 by starting up a cooperation project between Algerian and U.hanging scalesS. medicine universities and research labs, Chikhoune specified. 

Representatives of U.S. pharmaceutical firms urged the Algerian government to update the regulation related to this domain and make it in line with international standards, in order to facilitate the implementation of this partnership. 

For his part, Algerian Minister of Health Abdelaziz Ziari said in a speech that the government is committed to making this "win- win" partnership with the United States through providing attractive advantages and facilitations, including a growing local market of 37 million people. 

This partnership "will allow Algeria to become the fourth worldwide research and technological pole after those of Boston in the U.S., Singapore in Asia and Ireland in Europe," added Ziari. 

In 2011, Algeria and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the field of biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.
