Australian business confidence improves in Q1

Business confidence in Australia rose for the first time in a year in the March quarter of 2013, according to a quarterly business survey released on Thursday by National Australia Bank (NAB).

The survey also showed business conditions improved to an index level of minus two in the March quarter, from minus six in the December quarter of 2012. 

NAB Chief Economist Alan Oster said business confidence improved significantly in the first quarter although it remained below long-run average levels. 

"Much of the improvement in confidence reflects the unwinding of concern surrounding a number of external risks, including the U. S. fiscal cliff,Used loaders a hard landing in China and the reduced risk of a further European crisis," he said in a statement.
