How To Change The Johnson Pump Seals On A Water Pump

The seal inside a pump keeps the liquid being pumped from leaking out of the unit. The Johnson Pump Seals surrounds a shaft which is turned by a motor on one end and immersed in the liquid on the other. The seal maintains the integrity of the system by keeping the liquid inside the pumping chamber from leaking onto surrounding areas and also the motor powering the pump. Replace a seal if it wears out or becomes damaged.
1 Empty the water from the system.
2 Remove any cover protecting the water pump. Unhook any wires or tubes and undo any brackets holding the pump in place.
3 Take off the plates protecting the China Mechanical Seal compartment.
4 Pry out the seals, taking care not to damage the walls of the compartment. Some water pumps have two or more seals stacked on top of each other. Remove all of them.
5 Clean the seal compartment.luggage scales

7 Put the water pump back together by assembling it in the reverse order of disassembly.
