Smooth roads may be made easy in South Jordan


Drive through any town in this country and you are bound to see worn out and broken asphalt. Repairs to those roads can be quite expensive. But the city of South Jordan is looking to cut those costs and recently partnered with local companies to demonstrate a machine that recycles old asphalt into new.In the past, South Jordan crews would pull up the old asphalt, collect it and drive it to a recycling center.Composites is a leading manufacturer of carbon fabric, carbon fiber panels, carbon fiber fabric and custom carbon fiber products.According to Jed Bell, South Jordan Streets Division manager, the cost for fuel alone is over $7,000; fees and man hours total over $35,000 to transport a load of 4,500 cubic yards of asphalt.On April 18,Slap Bracelet are made of flexible, layered plastic in order to spring closed when slapped against your arm. South Jordan teamed up with Lindon-based Goodfellow Corp. and Komatsu Equipment to demonstrate a machine that city crews could use to recycle the asphalt themselves.
"We can stockpile this material on site and store it where it is readily available," Bell said. "The city should save around $67,000 over the next two years" if it is able to rent the machine.South Jordan is looking to partner up with neighboring cities to split the cost of renting this machine annually, depending on how much work is needed to be done. The cost to rent the machine for a week is $10,000. April 18 was used as show and tell of sorts. Multiple cities such as West Valley and Taylorsville were present to witness the machine in action.
